Circulation Policies

Any resident of the Town of Shawangunk who also resides in the Wallkill School District shall be eligible to apply for a library card. We will also issue cards to residents of the Town of Newburgh who live in the Wallkill School District. Residents of the Town of Plattekill who live in the Wallkill School District may apply for a courtesy card with limited privileges for use in our library and other Ulster County libraries in the Ramapo Catskill Library System.
All applicants for a library card must first complete a patron registration card and furnish two proofs of identification including one picture id. A post office box does not constitute proof of address. Examples of acceptable proof include tax bill, utility bill, driver's license, personal check, or mail. Any applicant under the age of 18 must have the signature of a parent or guardian. Children under 6 years of age are not eligible for a library card. The library must be notified of any change in address or phone number.
A barcoded library card will be issued to all eligible applicants. This card may be used to borrow materials from this library and from the other libraries in the Ramapo Catskill Library System. You must bring your card each time you wish to check out materials. Your first card will be mailed to you and is free. Replacement cards are $3.00. First time borrowers may check out up to 3 items.
All books, except reference or rare books, may be borrowed for a three week period. A renewal period may be granted unless the book is on hold for another patron. The fine for an overdue book is $0.10 per day for adult books with a maximum fine of $5.00 and $0.05 per day for children's books with a maximum fine of $5.00.
All audiotapes may be borrowed for a 2 week period. A renewal period may be granted unless the item is on hold for another patron. The fine for an overdue audiotape is $0.10 per day with a maximum fine of $5.00.
Periodicals may be borrowed for a 1 week period with no renewals. The fine for an overdue magazine is $0.10 per day with a maximum fine of $5.00. Children's magazines are loaned for a three week period with no renewals. The fine is $0.05 per day with a maximum of $5.00.
Videos that are the property of the Wallkill Public Library may be borrowed for a one week period. A renewal period may be granted unless the video is on hold for another patron. The fine for an overdue video is $0.25 per day with a maximum fine of $5.00. Videos that are part of the video pool collection may be borrowed for a two day period. These videos may not be renewed. The fine is $1.00 per day with a maximum of $5.00.
All materials borrowed through interlibrary loans will be subject to the lending library's loan period and fine schedule.
Borrowers will be billed for the value of any items that are lost or damaged.
