Computer/Internet Policy
Introduction:
The Liberty Public Library provides Internet access as a means of fulfilling
the informational needs of its users. The Internet provides an
excellent means to expand the scope of resources available to users, however it
is an unregulated and constantly changing medium. The library does
not monitor information on the Internet and cannot be held responsible for its
content.
The library strives to balance the rights of users to access a variety of
information resources with the rights of users and staff to work in a public.
Users are reminded that the library's computers are located in public areas and
are asked to consider that users are from many different ages and backgrounds when
accessing potentially offensive information or images.
Children:
Parents and legal guardians of children under 18 are responsible for their
children's use of the Internet. We encourage parents to take an active role in
their children's use of the Internet, and to talk about their personal values
and expectations of their children's use of this resource. Parents should be
aware that children will have full access our computer programs and to the
Internet. The only way to monitor their children's search is for the
adult to be present at the keyboard.
Rules and Limits:
The library's Internet stations are intended for information gathering
only. No Internet games or chat rooms.
It is not acceptable to use the Liberty Library network in such a way as to
interfere with or disrupt Internet users, services or
equipment. Such interference includes, but is not limited to:
transmission or use of obscene, threatening, or harassing materials;
