Daniel Kelley House

This house is a private residence located on the corner of Old Dutch Hollow Road and Penaluna Road. It is the oldest house in Greenwood Lake. Description: This building is located in what was known as "Dutch Hollow". This was the area of Greenwood Lake where the first settlers made their homes in the late 1700's early 1800's. Mr. Daniel Kelley built this house in 1840. It was his private residence. He built a distillery across the street and used his home as a store. It was a good location because it was located on a widely used toll road (Penaluna Road) and Mr. Kelley prospered. However, the government increased taxes on whisky and so Mr. Kelley went into bootlegging and doctored the books to hide his profits. The government was tipped off to his bootlegging and the distillery was burnt down in 1860. The house was not destroyed and remains a private residence today owned by the Welchman Family.
