TRANSITIONS, an exihbit by Barbara Gordon
Table Talk Book Discussion a Great Success
Fire Fighters Exhibit in Library's Gallery Link
| TRANSITIONS, an exihbit by Barbara Gordon | June 28 2008, 11:34 am |
| From July 2nd through July 30th, Ellenville Public Library’s Gallery Link will host an outstanding show called "Transitions" by renowned artist Barbara Gordon, newly of Accord. This unique exhibit will offer us an anthology of Barbara's abstract paintings and prints from over the years, giving us an exquisite taste of an extensive and daring career. Much of her work is thematic, and her abstracts are earthy integrations of acrylic, watercolor, pastels, print media and collage. Many of her paintings and prints are of landscapes and animals, which she clearly has a compassionate affinity for. But even if her work represents an external view, her perspective remains authentically subjective and honest, calling the viewer to new ways of seeing and feeling. Her bright colors capture the brilliance of light while her more muted tones draw us in. Barbara Gordon’s art has been seen in one-person and group exhibitions in New York City, Paris, Provincetown, MA, Montclair, NJ, and Woodstock, VT. Her work is included in the Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop Archives and Collection at the Library of Congress. She is also an award-winning filmmaker. her film about world hunger, Edge of Survival, received the first World Hunger Media Award at the united Nations and is part of the permanent collect of the Museum of Modern Art. She also shot, edited and produced two PBS Documentaries about Mother Teresa, and her film Casting Faith, about her first art teacher, the sculptor Gilian Jagger, has been broadcast on PBS stations around the nation. The Gallery Link is very proud to welcome Ms. Gordon to our artistically rich community with an Artist's Reception from noon-2pm on Saturday, July 12th. This is her first exhibit in the Rondout Valley. To learn more about Barbara and to view some of her artwork, visit her website at: www.barbaragordonart.net. The Gallery Link is open during regular library hours. 845-647-550. | |

| Table Talk Book Discussion a Great Success | June 11 2008, 11:53 am |
| On Monday, June 2, Ellenville Public Library & Museum hosted its first "Table Talk" Book Dicussion, featuring bestselling author Barbara Kingsolver's newest book, "Animal, Vegetable, Miracle", which documents her family's committment to eating only locally grown foods for one year. The lively discussion was led by Diane Reeder, Manager of the Kingston, NY Farmers' Market and Director of the Queen's Galley in Kingston. Everyone brought a "pot-luck" dish to share, many of which were based on home grown foods! The interest and concern of the inter-genrational and multi-cultural group of people who attended was deep and inspiring. Many expressed an interest in continuing the conversation with other food related books and home art classes. | |

| Fire Fighters Exhibit in Library's Gallery Link | June 11 2008, 11:46 am |
| Ellenville Public Library & Museum Welcomes Hudson Valley Volunteer Fire Fighters with a special exhibit in the "Gallery Link" Photos by District Photographer Joe Vesely and Original Currier & Ives prints "The American Fireman" The exhibit is open during normal library hours: Mon-Thurs 10am-8pm, Fri. 10am-5pm, Sat. 10am-3pm The Gallery Link Exhibit combines old and new images and objects, of rescue and honor. This special June exhibit in the Ellenville Public Library & Museum's "Gallery Link" honors the valor and dedication of our region's Fire Fighters with a unique display of contemporary images and antique illustrations, supplemented by two display cases containing historic and modern uniforms and gear. Photographs by District Photographer Joseph Vesely are offset by 5 original Currier & Ives prints from the "American Fireman" series. Mr. Vesely joined the New Windsor Fire Department in 1976, and retired in 1999 after sustaining an injury. After retiring he moved to Ellenville and began his work as a photographer. Joe felt strongly that the men and women of our volunteer fire fighting services receiving the recognition and acknowledgment they fully deserve, so he bought a camera and started to respond to emergency calls, sending photos to local papers. He was subsequently voted in as an Honorary member of the Scoresby Hose Hook and Ladder Co. One of the Currier & Ives prints, which are owned by the Village of Ellenville, provided the inspiration for Roger Baker's upcoming field art, to be mowed into the field on Kelly's Farm. The historic objects on display are from Ellenville Public Library & Museum's collection, with modern gear being on loan from the Ellenville Fire District. The exhibit in the Gallery Link was created in honor of the upcoming 2008 Hudson Valley Volunteer Firemen's Association Convention and Parade the weekend of June 20-22nd. Visit the Gallery Link at Ellenville Public Library & Museum during regular library hours at 40 Center Street, Ellenville, NY. (845)647-5530.
