Branch Manager

25-30 hours/week: Hours may include nights and weekends. This position reports to the Assistant Director. Salary is based on experience.

 

Qualifications:

  • College degree in library science or related field preferred
  • Supervisory and/or management experience preferred
  • Interpersonal skills to deal effectively with administration, staff and the public
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge with ILS, Microsoft Office and other business applications.
  • On-going learning with new technology and devices.
  • Intermediate level of knowledge with computers and ability to troubleshoot problems with computers, printers, scanners and copiers.
  • Able to lift 25 pounds

 

Responsibilities:

  • Works with administration to interpret and implement the library’s policies and procedures for staff and the public
  • Participates as a member of the management team involving the goals, decisions and projects of the library
  • Ability to demonstrate leadership, sound decision making and effective planning to ensure the proper flow of the day-to-day operations of the library branch are met.
  • Monitors the facility, alerts administration to maintenance and repair needs, as well as any obvious problems. Creates and maintains the library as an inviting and positive learning environment.
  • Effective communication with staff and community to notify, share and explain the goals of the library.
  • Maintains an awareness of current trends through professional reading and workshops or conference attendance, as required.
  • Mindful of current budget and the need to be cost effective.
  • Delegate and evaluate appropriate duties as necessary.
  • Branch Collection
    • On-going review and maintenance of the branch collection. This includes weeding, organizing, processing, etc.
  • Circulation Report
    • Responsible for the preparation and timely distribution of the monthly circulation report to the Executive and Assistant Directors.
  • Social Media
    • It the responsibility of the branch manager to ensure at least one item is posted per week on the library’s social media websites.
  • Monitor multiple email addresses that serve different purposes.
  • Teach and encourage staff and patrons to use the resources available at the library, on the Internet, on-line databases and requests.
  • Utilize time efficiently and effectively to ensure responsibilities are completed in a timely manner.
  • Manage volunteer staff
  • Other duties, as needed.
