Mary Lou Carolan, Director of Cornwall Public Library discussed community outreach during the summer reading program. She outlined three points: 1. Solve a problem within your community 2. Use free opportunities 3. Change the perspective of the library.  “Make the community the heart of the library”.

VOX Books Representative, Christina Sgagias-VOX Audio-Enabled Books-VOX Reader has reader attached inside the front cover.  One year warranty, shared samples with group and handouts with titles and price list.

CLOUSC projects and activities

End of the Year Luncheon-Lisa K. has been reaching out to authors and locations for luncheon for Monday, June 5.  Possibly tour Thornwillow Press in Newburgh and have representative from Hudson Valley Parents magazine. Information to come.

CLOUSC Award- Joni did not receive nominations this year, there won’t be an award this year.  Joni asked if committee could review guidelines for nominating someone for CLOUSC Award.

Y-2 Kids: Randy told the group that Y-2 Kids was shorter than previous years, schools didn’t attend after lunch.  Very busy day, not enough brownies!     

CLOUSC Officers-Chair and Secretary needed for next year.  If you are interested, please notify Randy or Lisa K.

SPECIAL WORKSHOPS:

Handed out information regarding Notable Book Banquets- May 2, May 3 and May 9

Fall Into Books-Save the Date-Wednesday, October 25, 2017 in Kingston- flyers will be distributed in May. Michelle and Karen from Goshen will be discussing “Poetry with a Purpose”.

RCLS NEWS:

The ABCs of Early Learning with BrainBoxes-April 6, 9:00am-1:00pm. Great response, great speaker. Randy had samples of boxes for infants and pre-school.

Early Learning Spaces-Friday, May 19th 10:00am-1:00PM.

Book preview coming in May-look for email regarding dates.

Martha Sullivan will be creating LibGuide for Professional Collection.

YSS/NYLA:

YSS Spring Workshop, Friday, April 28, 2017 in Ithaca, NY. Amanda and Randy will be attending.

SRP NEWS:

2017 manuals are available four ways:

  1. Electronically
  2. Paper copies available for loan
  3. DVD
  4. Flash drive available from Randy

Reading lists for SRP-volunteers are working on lists, available online only.

Newspapers-Strauss News will be printing newspapers.

Stickers and AccuCuts- working on lists, info to come.

Tech Topics

Discussed the use of Facebook and Instagram, liking or sharing through local town’s Yard Sale page. Randy mentioned program at Thrall on May 22 about using social media.

 

 

Highlight the Host

Melissa was happy to report Monroe Free Library has enough board members to fulfill their quorum.
